Pedagogy

Simple and relatable

I am very fortunate to have been taught by many outstanding professors in my undergraduate and graduate studies. Reflecting on the courses that I took, and the effectiveness of the instruction, has shaped my philosophy on engineering education: students learn best when material is presented in a simple and relatable way. I strive to share practical examples with students, in addition to providing exposure to state-of-practice techniques as utilized on current high-profile projects.

Problem Solving

Current global challenges are blurring the boundaries between engineering disciplines, social science, and climate science such that engineers are increasingly required to understand these sciences to design creative, ethical, and resilient solutions to real-life engineering problems.

Collaboration

The next generation of engineers need to be taught how to effectively communicate technical ideas and collaborate with peers from other backgrounds.

Strong Ethics

At the core of civil engineering is the responsibility to ensure the safety of the public. We design, develop, and implement solutions that billions of people use daily, from transportation systems to hospitals to nuclear power plants. If these solutions are not designed properly, they can lead to significant harm or loss of life.
